My personal Top picks for pre sweat, during, and recovery
Pre-Sweat - Good morning, Rise and shine:
· Clif Bar Peanut Toffee Buzz Bar –
Great carb intake
A balanced amount of carbs, protein, and fats with that added caffeine makes for the perfect pick me up when you’re in a rush and need that sustainable snack for sufficient energy! An easy choice for a meal replacement knowing I’m still getting the nutrition I need, not to mention this bar will really get you buzzin’ just before a hike or even a morning run!
· Nature’s Bakery Fig Bar - Raspberry
For a less intense workout, yet still great for easy/fast digestion when you’re on the go and need a nutritious and delicious time saver. It comes with 2 squares, when I want a quick bite or just need some extra energy, I love that I get to choose. I go with the blueberry for that extra flavor, but the original fig is just as tasty. Usually grabbing as a quick bite in the morning, a pick me up on a road trip, or brisk walk with the pups. The whole grain and real fruit ingredients let’s me know the calories are going to good use.
During - losing sweat, sweating some more:
· Pro Bar BOLT Organic Energy Chews (Strawberry)
During any rigorous outdoor activity longer than an hour, don’t forget to replenish those electrolytes, salt, simple sugars. A few of my favorites taste like giant fruit snacks, and thankfully don’t melt on a hot day! A quick kick of sugar your body can quickly absorb to avoid ‘hitting the wall’ (nothing you’d want to experience) I tend to grab 2-3 bites every 30-45 min. if I know it’s going to be a lengthy workout.
· Clif Bloks Energy Chews (Salted Watermelon)
This one comes in a sleeve, which can be sometimes easier to consume when on the go. Same idea with the sugar and electrolyte replenishment, slightly different texture, and some different delicious flavors with added caffeine or sodium on those hot summer days.
Recovery - tired, hungry, and hurting basically everywhere:
· Blue Diamond Almonds – Roasted/Salted
One of my go-to’s after a tiring workout/activity is always salted/roasted almonds. You get some protein in your system, healthy fats, potassium, and some salt to replenish what you sweat out.
· KIND – dark chocolate nuts & sea salt bar
· KAR’S Sweet ‘N Salty mix
If I have a bit of a sweet tooth craving, I go for a KIND chocolate nut bar or Sweet ‘N Salty Trail mix. You get a little bit of everything, nuts with protein, healthy fats, chocolate to stomp that craving, and raisins from the trail mix for that natural sugar.
